Graduated from SCB Medical College, Cuttack in 1980; later obtained MD in General Medicine [1985] from same institution. Trained in Gastroenterology at CMC, Vellore, and obtained DM [Madras University] in 1988.

In 1988, joined S.C.B. Medical College, Cuttack, and later became Professor & Head of Gastroenterology. Started DM course of in Gastroenterology at Cuttack.

Member of many learned Academic societies including AGA, AASLD, ACG, IPC [Indian Pancreatic Club]: ‘Founder Member’, Founder &‘Chairman’ KGF  [Kalinga Gastroenterology Foundation], IASL, INASL, SGEI,  ISG, IHPBA and APASL. In the past, Executive Committee Member of INASL, SGEI, and ISG. Currently President of INASL and SAASL. 

Over 150 publications in national and international journals, and currently Editor of the Journal: Hepatitis B Annual & Associate Editor, Journal of Clinical & Experimental Hepatology [JCEH]. Reviewer for many journals including: Southern Medical Journal, Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Indian Journal of Gastroenterology.

Organized numerous conferences. Organising Secretary of the Annual INASL Conference 2010, Bhubaneswar, and the Annual ISG Conference held at Cuttack in 1995, and the Organising Secretary & Chairman of International Peptic Ulcer Symposium at Bhubaneswar in 1995. Invited Faculty in scores of National and International Gastroenterology Meets. Authored numerous Original articles and Editorials in international journals.
